Meet Chikondi Njoloma Katungwe!
Chikondi is a Senior Agronomist & Head of Agronomy Department at Tea Research Foundation TRF.
Appointed was appointed on 1 July 2005, and began her career as a Trainee Agronomist. Through dedication, consistency, and a passion for excellence, she has grown into her current leadership role as Head of Agronomy, a clear reflection of her expertise and commitment to the sector.
Chikondi leads the development of technologies in tea agronomy and propagation through research. Her key focus areas include:
Tea nutrition
Harvesting and pruning techniques
Pest and disease control
Weed management
Climate adaptation
Green economy practices
She ensures that research translates into real impact by:
Disseminating technologies to tea growers (smallholders and estates) through publications, newsletters and field days
Providing technical advice to improve productivity and sustainability
Delivering training on various aspects of tea production.
Chikondi represents the power of women in science and agriculture bridging research with practical solutions that empower farmers and strengthen the tea industry.
